The United World Colleges National Committee in Vietnam (UWC Vietnam) invites high school students to apply for the 2020 Entry to the United World Colleges (UWC) Scholarship Program. The deadline for submitting applications by emails is 23:55, Saturday, October 5, 2019.
For the 2020 entry, UWC Vietnam continues to use the online application registration system with an earlier timeline. UWC Vietnam will select applicants based on their merits and nominate selected students to UWCs based on their financial needs. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Offer details will be released in September. Traditionally, there are about 10 offers from UWCs all around the world. These offers are up to 100% of the costs of tuition and board.
Applicants to this scholarship program must meet all three following conditions:
- Vietnamese citizens and currently living in Vietnam,
- Currently enrolled in high school (grade 10, 11, or 12) in September 2019, and
- Born between September 01, 2002 and August 31, 2004 (i.e. be between 16 and 18 of age when starting school in September 2020)
Successful applicants should demonstrate the following qualities:
a. Intellectual Curiosity and Motivation
A genuine urge to learn about the world around oneself and the ability to recognize the details and grasp the breadth of issues (for example global and local concerns) involved in any given topic and to analyze them thoroughly.
b. Active Commitment
The ability to develop and readiness to reflect, question and confront one’s own values, to measure one’s behavior within family and community against one’s values, and to act on one’s own beliefs accordingly and responsibly.
c. Social Competence
The ability and readiness to make contact with other people, to interact respectfully with them, to work together with them in a team and to achieve solutions; the ability to express oneself adequately in different situations and to different people.
d. Resilience, Personal Responsibility, and Integrity
The ability to look after oneself physically and emotionally during the challenging and transforming experience that a UWC offers; the personal motivation to adhere to UWC’s common moral and ethical principles, a sense of humility and an ability to listen and value another person’s opinion and experience.
e. Motivation for UWC
Passion, ability, and serious incentive to contribute to and actively promote UWC’s values.
Other things being equal, preference will be given to a student who would not otherwise have access to such an experience or who would gain the most from the opportunity. Therefore, students from rural areas and students from disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply for this program.
Please note that we do not require any certificates of English proficiency or any other qualifications. However, successful candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English.
Selection and Nomination Processes
Eligible candidates must register online at register.uwcvn.org to receive reference number and submit their completed applications and financial form by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 23:55, Saturday, October 5, 2019.
A number of applicants will be interviewed online; some of them will then be invited to the group activities and individual interviews in Ho Chi Minh City in December 2019.
Note: Interviewees from other cities and provinces are expected to pay for all the costs arising from their participation in the final round. However, interviewees may request for support from UWC Vietnam, if needed, including accommodation support.
Selected candidates will be nominated by UWC Vietnam to the relevant United World Colleges in January 2020 and the United World Colleges will confirm their acceptance to the students directly. Newly accepted students normally arrive at their United World Colleges in August, 2020.
